Frequently, pituitary tumours increase the overall size of the fossa and cause blistering or ballooning of the floor of the pituitary fossa.
The AP view is also helpful when looking at the pituitary region. Normally, the floor of the pituitary fossa is flat; an obvious dip in the floor of the sella turcica may indicate the presence of a tumour. The position of this indentation may also show the location of the tumour within the pituitary gland.
